Two maps of the plan to convert a 19 thousand acre holding in west
Sonoma county arround Annapolis, and photos of the same territory. As you
can see the slopes are imposing and in extremely sensitive terrain for the
health of the Gualala Watershed. The planned conversions will have to be "cherry
picked" off the scarce flat ridgetops, and terraces adjacent to extremely
steep slopes down to the watercourses.
If that project gets built, it will be the beginning of the end for any attempt
to keep contiguous forests in the West County in one piece (see also the satellite
images).
The remoteness and steepness of these slopes is evident from the air. The
development pressure on not only these lands but the surrounding communities
and forests will be extreme.
