The comment letters which follow are expert opinions sent to the California Department of Forestry (CDF) for inclusion in the official file. They are comments on a proposed Negative Declaration on a large forest to vineyard conversion in Annapolis, California. The applicant is a Spanish corporation, Codorniu, supposedly the third largest vintner in the world. They are proposing to clearcut and convert 105 acres of redwood and mixed conifer forest to vineyards. This is the largest conversion proposed so far in Sonoma County and it joins the many others that have been approved or are in process. The conversion applicants are aiming to convert forestland which lies close to the coast and which has soils and microclimate that are conducive for growing pinot noir wine grapes.
